Unique Reading Area: A Harmonious Blend of Nature and Design

The design of this reading area stands out with its interlaced relationship between people and space. The virtual and real hollows between the grilles create a captivating sense of overlap between light, shadow, and space. By using natural wood veneer and white on the ceiling and walls, the designer reduces the use of complicated materials and guides the beauty of nature into the interior. The result is a design that is not overly decorated, blurring the boundary between indoor and outdoor, and creating a people-oriented theme.

One of the unique features of this design is the use of vertical and horizontal lines to structure the space. Linear lighting is used to embellish, refract, penetrate, and focus, creating more aggregation spaces close to nature. The space also features marble floors, presenting the image of flowing clouds, flowing water, and mist, reminiscent of an ink painting. This cultural atmosphere sets the stage for people to talk, communicate, and immerse themselves in the world of books.

The reading area encompasses a variety of seating options, including floor changes and different types of furniture, catering to both adults and children. Children of different ages are provided with different height seat types, allowing them to freely choose their reading positions according to their preferences. The movable furniture triggers children's imagination and adds an element of playfulness to the space.

Located in a quiet and natural environment, this reading area is part of a larger project that aims to promote children's moral education and parent-child learning activities. The design process was not without its challenges. The team had to carefully respond to the environment and building forms, ensuring that the presentation was natural and harmonious. They also had to consider how to retain the existing marble materials, achieving environmental protection and preserving the earth's environment.

The unique reading area designed by Hui Hsin Cheng has garnered recognition in the design community. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2023. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
